Legendary Playback Singer P. Jayachandran Passes Away at 80

Veteran playback singer P. Jayachandran, fondly known as the Bhava Gayakan (Singer of Emotions), passed away on January 9 at the age of 80. With a career spanning over six decades, the legendary artist sang more than 16,000 songs and breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thrissur.
Jayachandran’s soulful and emotive voice captivated audiences across generations, earning him a cherished place in the hearts of music lovers. He lent his voice to songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, leaving an indelible mark on Indian music.
Over the years, his ability to evoke deep emotions through his singing earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious National Film Award for Best Playback Singer, five Kerala State Film Awards, four Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, the JC Daniel Award from the Government of Kerala, and the Kalaimamani Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Apart from his unforgettable contributions to film music, Jayachandran was also celebrated for his devotional songs, which remain timeless and continue to inspire generations.
Jayachandran is survived by his wife, Lalitha, daughter Lakshmi, and son Dinanathan. His legacy will forever be etched in the annals of Indian playback music as one of the most beloved voices of all time.
