Devayani’s Directorial Debut ‘Kaikuttai Rani’ Wins Big at Jaipur Film Festival

Acclaimed actress Devayani, known for her extensive career in over 100 films spanning three decades, has received international acclaim for her directorial debut, Kaikuttai Rani (Handkerchief Queen). The short film has been awarded Best Short Film for Children at the 17th Jaipur International Film Festival.

Produced, written, and directed by Devayani under the D Films banner, Kaikuttai Rani features an emotional narrative enriched by the musical brilliance of maestro Ilaiyaraaja and expert editing by the renowned B. Lenin. Cinematography by Rajan Miryala and sound design by Lakshmi Narayanan A.S. further elevate the film’s storytelling.

The 20-minute short follows the poignant journey of a young girl navigating life’s challenges after the loss of her mother, while her father works far away. The film powerfully conveys the emotions and struggles of children, earning high praise from the jury for its heartfelt and exceptional portrayal.

Speaking about the honor, Devayani expressed her gratitude: “Having acted in numerous films, receiving such a prestigious award for my first directorial project is incredibly fulfilling. I am deeply thankful to all the senior artists and technicians who brought this vision to life. We’re now working to showcase Kaikuttai Rani at other international festivals.”

The cast includes Niharika V.K. and Naveen N., with sound effects by C. Sethu and DI Colorist Antony Bebin A. The film is represented on the global stage by Ulaga Cinema Baskaran.

With its impactful storytelling and universal appeal, Kaikuttai Rani continues to captivate audiences and is poised to achieve further recognition at upcoming film festivals worldwide.
