Jananayagan Finally Hits Theaters Worldwide On July 23

The long-awaited theatrical release of apathy Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan has finally been announced by the makers. The political action thriller directed by H Vinoth is now confirmed to hit cinemas worldwide on July 23, 2026.

This marks the end of a prolonged wait for fans, with the film set for a wide release across multiple languages including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and others.

Vijay stars in the lead role as a determined cop, alongside Pooja Hegde, with Bobby Deol playing the antagonist. Supporting cast includes Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and others, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. The project, produced by KVN Productions, was positioned as Vijay’s final film before he fully transitioned into his role as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister following the elections.

The main reason behind the delay from the original January 9, 2026 Pongal date was a drawn-out battle with the Central Board of Film Certification. The film was submitted for certification in December 2025 but faced objections over certain scenes depicting religious sentiments and the armed forces. This led to it being referred to a revising committee, multiple court hearings in the Madras High Court, and further postponements. Adding to the troubles, the complete film leaked online in April 2026, triggering widespread piracy, arrests, and massive financial losses estimated in hundreds of crores even prior to its release.

After agreeing to minor cuts and modifications, the film recently secured an ‘A’ certificate. It is now expected to open on thousands of screens, generating significant buzz as one of the biggest releases of the year.
