The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has awarded an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate to the Tamil film Jana Nayagan (with English subtitles) after the makers carried out 12 specific cuts and modifications. The film, produced by M/s KVN Productions, has a final certified duration of 183.11 minutes.
The certificate (No. DIL/3/7/2026-Che), dated July 9, 2026, was issued following recommendations by the Revising Committee. The producers were required to make several changes to comply with certification guidelines.
Here are the 12 cuts and modifications ordered by the CBFC:
1.Dr. Ambedkar visuals modified — Visuals showing Dr. Ambedkar on the cover of a book have been altered wherever they appear.
2.Political dialogue changed — The dialogue “Ambedkar sattam…” has been replaced with “TVK sattam” in TC 110:23. Usage of “TVK” has also been removed from both audio and video.
3.Indian Flag scene deleted — Visuals of the Indian Flag falling on the ground in TC 157:04 have been removed (duration: 3 seconds).
4.Religious words muted — The words “Bhagavatham” and “Ranganathar” have been muted in scenes at TC 07:03 and 37:11.
5.Abusive words muted — The words “Thevidiya Paiya” and “Oththa” have been muted in TC 81:03 and 80:46.
6.Multiple dialogues altered — References to “OM”, “New India” (during Operation Meluha explanation), and a specific line involving “Thookula thudikiratha… avanae mediala leak panni” (in connection with Saddam’s hanging) have been either muted or replaced.
7. Disrespectful visual modified — The visual of a DC’s office badge/cigil being rolled down disrespectfully in TC 96:25 has been removed and replaced (1 second).
8.Full dialogue muted — The entire dialogue starting with “Ponnoda…… kuduthu vachirukkanum, Udambu erukkunnu” in TC 108:14 has been muted.
9.Dialogue muted — The line “India en kalla vizha vaikaren” in TC 43:53 has been muted.
10.Child burning visuals removed — Scenes showing a child burning in TC 73:29 and 73:42 have been deleted and replaced (total 16 seconds deleted, 9 seconds replaced).
11.Word muted — The word “Siluvaia” has been muted in TC 120:04.
12.Name replaced — The name “Sheela Rani” has been replaced wherever it appears (TC 92:37, 149:49, and 169:27).
