The Central Board of Film Certification has officially granted an A certificate to the much-awaited film Jana Nayagan starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.
Directed by H Vinoth, this marks Vijay’s final film as an actor before fully focusing on his political career. The certification comes after months of scrutiny and revisions, clearing the way for its theatrical release later this month.
The film was originally scheduled for a January 9 release but faced significant delays due to multiple objections from the censor board regarding its intense violence and sensitive scenes. Additional hurdles included court interventions at the Madras High Court and a major full HD piracy leak in April that disrupted plans. These issues extended the certification process for nearly six to seven months, testing the patience of fans and the production team.
Reports indicate that the board suggested around 13 modifications, including cuts to violent sequences and muting of certain dialogues, resulting in a final runtime of approximately three hours. With the A certificate now secured, the makers are preparing for a wide release, with July 24 emerging as the likely date. The production house is expected to announce the official release details soon.
Jana Nayagan features Vijay in the lead role alongside Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju and Bobby Deol, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The political action drama has generated massive anticipation as Vijay’s last cinematic outing, and the clearance of the censor hurdle is seen as a major relief for everyone involved in the project.
